DFI provided Sr. Construction Inspection for the senior center in Washington County, which is a long overdue project. Located on 21 Willard Street in Hagerstown, this new senior center provides a place for the elderly to enjoy activities, classes, and events which are best suited for them. Programs include gentle exercises such as dance, yoga, and aerobics. Members can engage in various arts & crafts, a chess club, and piano lessons among other activities.
This senior center is a partial creation of an existing building that was on the site, as well as a completely new building. DFI managed the relocation of existing utilities and provided oversight to asbestos and lead abatement.
The Washington County Senior Center is an energy efficient building that consists of new insulation, sun shading areas, and a brand new mechanical system. The interior and exterior wood-finishes emanate an environmental and natural feeling to the whole structure.
Perhaps the area that members will find most pleasant is the outdoor sitting fixture that has benches and tables where people can enjoy sitting among plants while soaking in the Sun. This will be just one of the many improvements that seniors will experience from their previous and temporary senior center which was held at Girls Inc. Seniors will also be happy to know that the bus travels to and from the senior center.
